PM Modi likely to visit Bengal after April 24 amid violent protests

Prime Minister Narendra Modi may visit West Bengal on a two-day trip later this month, as hinted by Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari. Though there has been no official confirmation from the Prime Minister's Office, speculations are rife that Modi could attend a Metro Rail event in the state after April 24.

Suvendu Adhikari, speaking at a BJP rally on Sunday, hinted that the Prime Minister’s visit is likely to coincide with the growing agitation over the Waqf law and alleged teacher recruitment corruption. Addressing party workers and the public, Adhikari said, “The Prime Minister is scheduled to come in the next few days. After that, we will launch the Nabanna Abhiyan. The state president will announce the date. We will intensify our fight over the teacher recruitment scam.”

The BJP rally, held at Dharmatala in Kolkata, was aimed at protesting alleged irregularities in teacher appointments and demanding accountability from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government. Prominent BJP leaders including Dilip Ghosh and state party president Sukanta Majumdar participated in the protest, which witnessed strong turnout and vocal support from party workers.

Adhikari added that the upcoming visit of the Prime Minister will give momentum to the BJP’s plans for a large-scale protest against the state government. He reiterated that the "Nabanna Abhiyan" — a protest march towards the state secretariat — will be a turning point in their fight against corruption and injustice in Bengal’s education system.

The Prime Minister’s anticipated visit comes at a politically sensitive time for West Bengal, with tensions already high following recent violence in Murshidabad and public dissatisfaction surrounding employment issues. The BJP appears to be preparing to use the occasion of the PM's visit to galvanize supporters and push forward its political agenda in the state.

Meanwhile, BJP sources suggest that detailed plans for the Prime Minister’s visit are still under wraps and subject to final security and event assessments. However, the party has already started ground mobilization in anticipation of a high-impact visit that could energize its base ahead of future political campaigns.
